“Training in the sun. Training in the Sun Tzu.”

The ‘Art of War’ is an overly dramatic way of highlighting the fact that beach volleyball games can be won on many different levels other than skill alone. The articles on this web site are specifically designed to introduce you to the concept of strategy as it can apply to beach volleyball. Possibly in ways you hadn’t considered.

I love beach volleyball because it’s like a fight. Except you don’t have to lose teeth to get involved. Much of the strategy involved in actual fighting and warfare can be applied to beach volleyball. A good beach volleyball game and a good fight for that matter are like a chess match. It’s just that you don’t have set pieces to use.

Every sport has its own spirit. It is alive in its own unique way and evolves just like anything in Nature. What began, as a game based on hard court volleyball but played on sand, is now its own unique sport. The skills, strategies and tactics used are unique. Above all it is a game that requires you to be able to think for yourself. The information presented aims to introduce you to concepts that may help you win beach volleyball games.

Over time we will be addressing all manner of strategies and their applications. These include emotional, ego based, frame of mind, technical, intangible, breathing and spiritual based strategies. These will both have the ability to confound your opposition and deliver the most from your own game.
